The Compliance Solutions 2003 conference was held on October 8th and 9th at the Hynes Convention Center in Boston. The event featured 18 presentations that ran the gamut from a 60,000-foot view of potential organizational changes to a nuts-and-bolts discussion of what must take place prior to an earnings conference call. Despite approximately 30 vendor booths, the floor was less busy as the crowd tended to gravitate towards the speakers.In some ways, this is indicative of the strong need for market education prior to technology investments. The focus of the event was coming into compliance with upcoming regulations, the most prominent being the Sarbanes-Oxley Act. Most compliance issues concern three sections of the Act: 302, 404, and 409. This review discusses what these acts mean and the solutions that vendors have for dealing with them.
